PLUMBING
  • There is no plumbing in an RDM.  For environmental reasons, communal facilities are recommended in the aftermath of a disaster.
OUTLETS/LIGHTING
  • One AC powered LED light fixture and one UL labeled GFIC commercial power distribution strip is shipped with each RDM.  These can be hooked into shore power, conventional or solar generators.
HEATING/COOLING
  • A heating/cooling package is available for an extra fee (call for details).
  • System is designed to be “plug & play” – any number of off the shelf systems can simply be set inside the shelter and plugged in.
ASSEMBLY
  • 2 skilled people: about 30 minutes.  (Even with less skilled individuals, an RDM can be set up and closed to weather in less than one hour.  More people can make things go faster.)
  • NO tools are needed to assemble an RDM.
  • Individual parts are numbered and/or color coordinated to ease construction.
  • Each RDM ships in a single crate, the crate unfolds to become the floor.
  • Kit includes all parts, fittings and components to erect building.
  • A sledge hammer or cordless screw gun (hammer drill) is needed to set ground anchors, depending upon type used.
  • Unskilled labor is fine in the assembly process as there is NO cutting or carpentry-type work of any kind.
  • All electrical and HVAC systems are off the shelf, plug & play type.
NO FOUNDATION NEEDED
  • RDM sits on height-adjustable feet.
  • A relatively flat, level patch of ground approximately 9’x14’ is required.
  • Location can be soil, sand, gravel or paving/concrete.
SHIPPING
  • The shelter ships flat-packed, in crate form (4’ x 7.5’ x 4’). (The crate unfolds to become the floor.)
  • Crates can be stacked two high for storage and shipping.
  • 10 RDMs fit in a 20’ shipping container; 20 RDMs fit in a 40’ container and 26 ship in a 53’ trailer.
  • One RDM can fit in a standard full-sized pickup bed.
The RDM is composed of 15 main elements:
  • 11 of the elements contain recycled content
  • 2 are renewables
  • 12 of the RDM’s main assembly components can be recycled at the end of usable life (10 years or more).
